Gathering Storm

(Hey guys, I know we don’t usually discuss gay bashing beyond the context of Lindsay Lohan jokes on the site, but I got so upset by the video above that I’ve cut and pasted a note I originally wrote on my personal Facebook.

Intolerant hatred should be reserved for slutty celebrities who are richer and prettier than us, not based on sexual orientation. Fight the real enemy!)

Am I the only one who thinks the subtext of this ad is unless someone beats the crap out of a faggot and leaves them in a ditch to die, the sun will never come out again?

Whoever made “Gathering Storm” makes Leni Riefenstahl look like Mahatma Gandhi. Lacking any fact based argument against gay marriage, The National Organization for Marriage basically resorts to fear mongering, with actors rifling through a long list of ways gay marriage victimizes straight people like “My freedom… will be taken away” and “I’m a California doctor, who must choose between my faith and my job”, without even pretending to explain how that makes any sense.

But if you’re offended by the ad, I think that’s the point. Aside from the sinister infomercial vibe that seems to have been lifted straight out of Vanilla Sky’s ending; look at the “a rainbow coalition of people of every creed and color are coming together (with their pitchforks)” line. Jesse Jackson allusions aside, NOM deliberately was trying to co-opt the rainbow symbolism from the gay community to get under people’s skin, and bet outrage would equal free press.

And it’s completely worked, with high profile parodies already appearing on The Colbert Report and FunnyorDie.com (NOM even thanks Colbert for the evisceration on their website). Sure all the feedback might be that NOM is skuzzy, but that’s not really the point as a new CBS Poll released April 3^rd shows that Americans still oppose gay marriage by a  2/3^rd majority. So the more exposure NOM can get, the more likely they are to get a majority rallying to their cause. It might be evil, but this ad is exceedingly effective.

So a friend of mine just put up a new website, which I’d like to plug but just in case that doesn’t hold your attention I included these nude photographs of Padma Lakshmi and Chelsea Handler that were just released by Allure Magazine. It’s a brilliant scheme, if a men’s magazine has naked women in it, that’s degrading, but if a women’s magazine has naked women that’s empowering.

Think about that for a second, no parent wants their little girl growing up to become a stripper, but nearly every parent wants their daughter to grow up feeling empowered. Does that make any sense?

Anyway, the website I wanted to tell you about is called My Linked HP and it’s a home page that features the best sites and links on the internet, all in one centralized location. Sure you can use Google to find the sites you want, but the cool thing about My Linked Homepage is you don’t even have to type anything into search; you just scroll down the page and the most popular sites on the internet are already there - plus it works with the iPhone!

Actually Chris Brown was spotted on Saturday leaving a tattoo parlor with a new chick, reportedly Natalie Mejia of the super-obscure girl group Girlicioius. The girl was apparently sporting a tattoo with stars, similar to the ones both Rihanna and Chris have but I don’t know because based on this picture, you really can’t see anything:

Anyway, Girlicioius may have never had a hit, but they did release a single called ‘Stupid Sh**’ which I guess can retroactively be about thinking dating Chris Brown was a good idea.

Here’s what Natalie Mejia looks like in her work outfit, but I’ve also heard a rumor that Erica Jackson, a student from the University of Mary Washington is the girl in the tattoo parlor picture. I don’t know which one it is but it doesn’t really matter… the faces of the girls Chris Brown date inevitably end up looking the same anyway.

Could Tila Tequila have screamed out her last off key note? The popular singer reality star has just been murdered by a stalker who broke into her house, killing both her and her dog.

How do I know this? Her own Twitter feed told me:

Okay her Twitter account has since been made private and there’s about as much chance that this is real as of Tila getting a clean bill of health on an STD test. Still, just in case it wasn’t the work of a hacker, let’s take a moment of silence to remember everything Tila has accomplished.
