Sarah Palin: the beauty pageant pictures

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard that John McCain has chose Sarah Palin, both the hottest and most obscure governor in America as his running mate for the White House. The Democrats couldn’t manage to get a woman on their ticket, but the GOP did - it’s like we’re living in a political Twilight Zone.

Anyway, the first thing that’s jumping out about Sarah Palin to people is that she’s a former beauty pageant contestant. Now she wasn’t a winner, there aren’t going to be many of those in the Republican party this Fall in general, but she was the first runner up in the Miss Alaska Pageant in 1984, which is how she paid for college.

Though over 20 years have past since her pageant days, the high cheeked 44-year-old posed in Vogue magazine last year, and could easily pass as Tina Fey’s slightly older sister.

It’s nice to have such a fresh face front and center in the political scene; I mean maybe her politics are from another century, she’s pro-life, for Alaskan drilling, and anti gay marriage, but at least these archaic views are finally being delivered by a more attractive messenger.

  2. Such subtle digs on a different opinion! You speak of pro life, Alaskan oil drilling, and Opposition to Gay marriage as archaic!
    1. What’s the difference between a baby the day before birth and the day after? Lots of opinions, but don’t dismiss the selflessness of trying to defend the helpless unborn.
    2. I own the most fuel efficient car on the market (Prius). When I need fuel, I still use gasoline. 70% imported, and the biggest producers follow a belief system which really is from another century 5 times over! I’d rather American oil companies get rich and not Saudi Princes. You?
    3. Protected by the Constitution, all people have a right of free association. The debate over Gay Marriage is a political one involving the promotion of good child rearing conditions through financial incentives and for the protection of housewives’ ownership rights. This concern has diminished in the modern era, and there is little need to extend the protections. Government cannot prevent the union of anyone!

After these often misunderstood positions, How about looking at the Woman who has demonstrated great executive prowess and has pushed into the headwind, beating it, time & time again! I am excited and McCain has shown the attitude that won my vote in 2000 and today!

She looks like Peggy Hill for goodness sakes and her more youthful pictures, well let’s just say that if she had lived in any other state (and obviously more populated state) she wouldn’t have gotten as far as runner up.

  12. Someone with ‘STRONG FAMILY VALUES’
fails to run her own small house hold according to these values and educate the minor daughter about the risks of teenage preganacy. presumes she can run a country.what stupidity, she comes across so white trashy. Teenage pregancies are more prevelant in our low income, low educated, and mostly broken homes. these people though good human being worthy of all our love and respect are not the right people of running a great nation. It is about time we put some intelligent educated and smart people in the white house instead of actor and bafones like bush.

  13. I am a lesbian and I am excited about McCain/Palin’s campaign regardless of their views on gay marriage. That is just one issue compared to all the other important issues of today. She’s exactly what we need in the White House. If you look at her political record, she doesn’t just talk about change, she makes it happen.
For Phil - You need to look at the statistics of middle/upper class teenagers who are getting pregnant despite all the education on abstinence and birth control. It’s not just lower income, and non educated families who are dealing with this.
For Bill - Sarah eloped at the age of 24. I’m not sure if she was pregnant or not. If she was, I can’t see the comparison between a 17 year old high school senior and a 24 year old college graduate.

Are you being deliberately obtuse, Brian? How about the protections and rights marriage confers? How about adding your partner to your health insurance? You cherry-pick your discussion points.

Republicans will do well if the ignorant vote again against their best interests because of their fear of the world and their need to feel that we are the globe’s chosen ones despite data showing the inarguable decline of the US in dozens of quality of life issues.

So tired of flag-waving automatons who are so unsophisticated that they may as well wear blinders. Open your eyes, it’s not a sin to see clearly. Quit voting out of fear, intolerance and religious pressures. Try common sense for once.

  18. Sarah Palin says that her daughter’s pregnancy is “off limits” because her pregnancy is “personal and private.” Fine with me. On the other hand, this same woman who wants privacy for HER daughter thinks that if MY 17 year old daughter were to become pregnant from rape or incest, by law, she should have to carry the fetus to term. So, it’s “private” in her case, but she wants a PUBLIC policy that would have the government dictate what everyone else’s daughter would do, or have to do in this situation. That is arrogant and hypocritical and a real “conservative” should not want to pass laws that intrude on private decisions. She is not a “conservative” when it comes to this issue. She is a radical.

This man has a very scary hidden agenda, has connections to some very questionable radical groups and people, and is defiantly not running in the best interest of his country. If he wins, watch and see. It will be regretted by all that voted for him, and I am confident that another democrat will not take the president seat for many many years to come. Noone will trust them. McCain…Oh how I hope you win….I will fear living in this country if you don’t.

  23. Palen is finally a breathe of fresh air. New ideas and views going into the old mens club. I frankly think all politicians should be afraid of her, regardless of party. And all Americans should see atleast a glimmer of hope now. Like it or not, this is still a county founded on judeo-christian values and we use those as our moral compass. For those who do not agree with those values, there are plenty of other places you could live that more closely match your values (or lack thereof. Of all the candidates she is the ONLY candidate with ANY executive experience, and the ONLY candidate that has actually forced change and exposed corruption in her own party. The others are just blowhard politicians with experience playing the washington political game. No real leadership experience in ANYONE else. How about a Palen\McCain ticket.

    Comment by Tyrone — September 8, 2008 @ 18:18

  24. You people are actually spending the calories to post about her looks???? The future of our country will be dramatically impacted by this event and your so shallow, selfish and ignorant that you want to talk about her looks, her daughters pregnancy, why she isnt meeting your expectation on QUANTITY of interviews and everything EXCEPT what really matters. Either wake up and get the informed on the issues, or get out of the way and dont pollute our wonderful political system with your uninformed, ignorant vote. Emotional, uninformed votes are worse then not voting at all.

    Comment by Tyrone — September 8, 2008 @ 18:25

  25. Let’s hope substance is more important than looks in this election. Why is it that the republican party platform keeps pushing values over issues? Do they think their voter base is so blindly idealistic that they don’t realize that smaller government benefits businesses at the expense of caring for the needs of poor people who too often fall through the cracks? And they keep pulling the wool over people’s eyes with mistruths, playing the family values card and the importance of “equal opportunities” (both of which are oddly enough, considered right-wing sentiments — at least in longing to return to the past) over “sharing the wealth” — which would actually benefit the majority of us. The fact is that corporations are multinational and it’s impossible to keep all jobs in our country. Economics is so intertwined and our lives are dependent upon playing nice together in the world. Adopting too strong of a “small government” stance is dangerous because I think it is in the nature of free-market capitalism to let the needs of the poor and unrepresented be ignored. I’m all for a qualified president from any gender in the White House, but this woman’s agenda scares me — especially her pentecostal vision of Iraq as a holy war, and a part of God’s plan. I think that in their essence, all religions come from the same source, at least before they were polluted by human frailties/personal agendas. So Palin’s rhetoric from church speeches espousing the religious nature of the Bush-Cheney occupation of Iraq — with no WMDs — as a part of God’s plan, is frightening. I wouldn’t put it past the extreme religious right to assassinate McCain so that Palin could be in a position to implement extreme philosophies in federal government. She would fire anyone she could or undermine those who opposed her positions, as she did in Alaska.

Read that again you cornhead, TEN BILLION BARRELS per year. that is MORE OIL then they are predicting in ALL OF ANWAR and most of alaska. So we “drill baby drill” and stop buying foreign oil for ONE YEAR, then what? All the oil is gone. 28. “She’s exactly what we need in the White House. If you look at her political record, she doesn’t just talk about change, she makes it happen”

We need another liar in the whitehouse?

McCain said that Palin put the Plane on Ebay and sold it for a profit. In part of the country that is known as a LIE! Palin listed the plane on EBAY three times but couldnt sell it. So the plane was sold in a sweetheart deal at a LOSS for alaska. The campaign supporter who bought the plane for a song is not complaining though, he made out like a rat buying a plane discounted by palin for politial support.

Palin said she was against earmarks. As mayor of a town of 4800 what did she do? She HIRED the same LOBBYING company that worked for INDICTED ALASAKAN Senator Ted Stevens. She then flew to washington with her lobbyiests in hand and brought home $27 MILLION DOLLARS in earmarks for her small town. About 4000 dollars per person. The national average on earmarks is 330 dollars.

Palin RAN FOR GOVERNOR with the slogan of “No where Alaska” she RAN SUPPORTING the bridge. When she became governor the money for the bridge did NOT GET sent to alaska because of the national outrage. THEN and ONLY THEN did palin say alaska was not going to build the bridge because the earmarks she RAN ON did not materialize.

As Governor PALIN got 243 MILLION IN EARMARKS for alaska. Palin says she slashed spending, yes she cut spending including the spending she cut for special needs children. But she DID NOT cut a DIME IN EAR MARKS that alaska was set to recieve.

Palin said that obama would raise taxes on business, as governor Palin IMMEDIATELY RAISED TAXES on business INCLUDING the oil industry and gave a WINDFALL PROFITS TAX REBATE of 1200 dollars per resident of alaska. In the NEXT BREATH she slams OBAMA for proposing a tax on big oil and a windfall profits tax for ALL AMERICANS. For palin it is okay to tax big oil as long as ONLY ALASKANS get the money.

Governor Palin is now under investigation for abuse of power and ethics charges. As Mayor of wisalla she went to the libraian and wanted to know the procedure for BANNING BOOKS! the libraian told her that the mayor can not ban books. That Librarian was FIRED BY PALIN! Palin has fired DOZENS OF people who have disagreed with her.

  31. I’ve got news for everybody that has anything to say about Palin not being able to manage her own household and about her 17 year old daughter getting pregnant. The fact of the matter is……..no matter how much money you have or how much you try to educate your children on the risks, if they want to have sex, they are going to have sex….regardless. Unless you lock them up & deny them any sort of social contact, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it. Once you educate them, it’s up to them to make the right decisions. All you can do is hope that that’s what they do.

McCaine is as dumb if not Dumber than Bush and only uses his Vietnam POW expertise as examples. Obama avoids every question. I fear what will happen when one of the two win the election. I usually vote Democrat but, I think I am going with McCaine this time. I am a disabled Veteran and I get little Benefits for my disability caused by the first Gulf War and Obama wants to tear it apart. The rest of my income is Social Security and Obama wants to tear it up and also, allow illegal Immigrants to get it making the future os Social Secutiry for our Children and Grandchildren uncertain. Palin seems like a real politician and has some problems. Everyone critisized Clinton when he was president over Monica yet, look what happened.. He balanced the Budget and we were at peace through his entire 8 year term. Gas prises were normal and the Country was running smoothly. Clinton was normal with human problems. I would rather have a “Real” person with “Real” personal problems in office than someone on a power trip. Then again.. Where is Ralph Nader when we need him… Run Nader Run. My Vote is for Palin.

  44. I think the problems with America today is the Citizens. People complain about everything. Complaining about bad parenting over Palins Pregnant daughter? Come on America. Most parents now a day only compromise with their children and tell everyone.. I will never raise MY Children as my Parents raised me. Look what happened with that brainiac idea. Children are out of Control. If you discipline them, you get in trouble, They defy authority, the have no respect or manners. We all got Punished for defying laws and our parents and we turned out just fine. People now only find things to gripe about, Smoking, Drugs, My Kid has Attention Deficite disorder.. give them pills. I am depressed I cant work, This is unacceptable.
This Country is STILL divided on Race and Religion. Oppinions are like Ass Holes.. Everyone has one. When I came back from the war.. I had no parade, big home coming, nothing. No One hangs a US flag outside their homes anymore.. Only a few. Why is it only White folks can be racist?
    There are African Americans,
    Mexican Americans,
    Asian Americans,
    Arab Americans,
    Native Americans, etc.
…..And then there are just -
    Americans.
Some pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. They Call me White Boy, Cracker, Honky, Whitey, Caveman, the Man.. Thats ok…
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most Dangerous places to live?
They have the United Negro College Fund.
    They have Hispanic History Month.
They have Martin Luther King Day.
    They have Asian History Month.
    They have Black History Month.
    They have Cesar Chavez Day.
    They have Ma’uled Al-Nabi.
    They have Yom Hashoah.
    They have Kwanza.
    They have the NAACP.
    And BET.
If we had WET (White Entertainment Television) …..We’d be racists.
If we had a White Pride Day…You would call us racists.
If we had the White History Month ..We’d be racist.
If we had any organization for only whites to ‘advance’ OUR lives, ….We’d be racists.
We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,
    a Black Chamber of Commerce,
and then we just have the plain
Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that?
If we had a college fund that only gave white students Scholarships .You know we’d be racists.
There are over 60 openly-proclaimed Black-only Colleges in the US,
yet if there were ‘White-only Colleges’ …..THAT would be a racist college.
In the Million-Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights.
If we marched for our race and rights, …..You would call us racists.
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and red, and you’re not afraid to announce it.
But when we announce our white pride …..You call us racists.
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer who is running from the LAW and posing a threat to ALL of society
    …..You call him a racist.
I am proud. …..But, you call me a racist.
Why is it that only whites can be racists?
I fought for MY Country and became Disabled for the rest of my life doing so. I can’t enjoy many of the freedoms I fought so hard for everyone to have. In order for our Country to be great again, we need to Close our Borders. If they want to be an American, DO it the way everyone else had to do it and also, Get a back ground investigation going back 3-4 generations. We need for American Corporations to stop being greedy and moving their assembly and manufacturing plants to foreign Countries. We need to STOP Racism once and for all. The only way to achieve this is to stop all Cultural accomidations. No Special College tuition because your a different race, No Seperate Race activated Chamber of Commerces, Everyone should be 100% Equal and that is the only way this will happen. Certain Religious groups and certain Races don’t believe in God and want it removed from our Nation Anthem and our Currency.. The slogan “Under God.. and One Nation under God” is part of the core of America. If you don’t like it.. Get the fuck out of My Country. Yes, I call it MY Country because I bled for it voluntarily as well as many other of my Brothers and Sisters in Arms. Stop Whining about Getting people who like to Smoke to make it illegal and getting it banned. Stop whining my Kid needs Ritalin, Im depressed, I didn’t get this or that because of the color of my skin.. Grow up. If you don’t like how America is.. Leave.. Real American don’t want you here. I love this Country and it makes me sick with all the complaining, Stupid Lawsuits, why can’t everyone just be “Americans” and love this Country? If your not American.. You shouldn’t be here unless your just visiting. We need more Capital punishment, and harsher laws and punishments for Race Crimes, Illegals, Terrorists, etc. Come on America.. Put an American Flag outside your house and give thanks to our Forfathers and our Troops. And don’t be embarrased to say “God Bless America”, “In God we Trust”, we are one Nation under god.. Lets show the rest of the world how great we can be again. There is just too much hate against on another going on today. Even in this column.. People are expressing their opinions and others are calling them Idiots and worse because they have different views from them.. Freedom of Speech.. Is that whats next to go? People like that probably are Flag Burners.
